Contornar [Pt: to skirt, to bypass, to outline, to go around]

Following Tornar [Pt: to become], the group exhibition with Dalila Gonçalves at Laboratório das Artes (PT), Contornar is an attempt to explore the ideas of detour, outlining, process, mapping and silhouette. The sense of approaching, or rather, outlining is itself the operative tool for most of the works presented at FAC Peregrina.
In Contornar I present two series of work: Dug Material and Out line outline. Dug Material is a series of paintings on printed-paper of magazines, covering most text areas with blocks of color, leaving few words that form a specific discourse. This work seeks both to disclose and to speak to accidental encounters with meaning. Most of the words left out uncovered speak about text, thinking or productivity.
Label/Etiquette variations is a series of very structural compositions where a certain internal rotation or detour, twists the rigidity of the grid. This series is inasmuch about the formal aspects as is about the meticulous and repetitive processes, that on a certain degree, speak to the continuous search for something.
